Position Opening for Vice President of Administration and Finance (VPAF) for the American Farm School (31/8/2010)
The American Farm School is a private, nonprofit educational institution that prepares leaders in agriculture, food systems, natural resources and life sciences. Founded in 1904, the School today is comprised of a secondary school division for Greek students and the Dimitris Perrotis College of Agricultural Studies for students from Greece, the Balkans and beyond. The School’s diversified farm supports the educational operation and the institution’s learn-by-doing environment. Job mission:
The VPAF reports directly to the President of AFS and is responsible for all financial services and for administrative duties as designated below. It is his/her responsibility to ensure that the School’s financial structure is sound and that all its financial operations are conducted with probity and transparency, and support and advance the vision,
mission and values of the organization.
Main Responsibilities:
- Oversee all the School’s financial activities, including accounting and cashier operations as well as purchasing and human resource management functions
- Prepare budgets and other financial statements
- Manage the cash flow, accounts payable and receivable, investments in Greece, social security and tax payments, insurance policies, and all other financial functions
- Oversee the annual audit and any special audits
- Provide leadership and oversee the Finance, Accounting, Purchasing and Human Resources staff
- Monitor financial aspects of all projects and activities, including AFS land development, as well as private and state-funded projects
- Analyze and translate financial data into key performance metrics
- Undertake the preparation of long and short term financial strategies in support of the overall AFS strategic development plan
- Support and analyze strategic decision making to include potential change and development of the School’s programs.
Qualifications required:
Graduate Degree in Economics or Finance & 5-year experience in similar position
Additional skills:
- Fluency in both Greek and English
- Knowledge of the Greek and American tax and labor legislation, including financial reporting requirements for nonprofit organizations
- Experience with ERP systems
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- Proven record in formal financial reporting
- Experience in auditing and internal control systems highly desirable
